Corporate social responsibility (CSR)

What is CSR?
 The impact of a company's action on society.
Means that a corporation should be held accountable for any of its actions that affect people, their communities and environment.

From the 1950's to the present the concept of CSR has gained considerable acceptance and the meaning has been broadened to include additional.

CSR arguments for
1. Address social issues
2. Profit business self-interest
3. Limits future government intervention
4. Addresses issue by being proactive
5. Address issues by using business resource and expertise.
6. Addresses social issues caused and allows business caused and allows business to be part of the solution.

CSR arguments against
1. Restricts the free market goal of profit maximization
2. Business is not equipped to handle social activities.
3. Dilutes the primary aim of business.
4. Increase business power.
5. Limit the ability to compete in a global market place.
6. Places responsibility in business rather than individual.
